It seems like only yesterday that we put our first school website live. I was asked by my daughter’s primary school teacher whether I could help with the school’s first ever website.
At the turn of the century some schools already had websites, so it was hardly ahead of its time, however this teacher was forward thinking and saw the benefit of publishing basic school information on the Internet. In April 2001, the website went live instantly getting recognition from other local schools.
Many years and thousands of websites later, I am extremely proud that e4education is now established as one of the UK’s leading providers of websites for schools.
We employ dozens of hugely talented people who are very proud of the work they do, and I strongly believe that this resonates with our clients.
The Emergence of Multi-Academy Trusts
Today schools, and the education sector itself, are very different. The emergence of Multi-Academy Trusts (MATs) and the changing structure of single schools and academies means that we rarely deal with a single point of contact on new projects. At e4education we are proud of our diverse range of customers, from small countryside primary schools, to large MATs with tens of schools. To ensure we continue to provide a first-class service we have introduced a selection of flexible product options and restructured our account management, production and technical support teams.
In September 2018, I became a Trustee of a local MAT, as I wanted to share my industry experience and give something back to the market that has been so good to my business. This has reinforced my belief that strong governance is of vital importance, and that we have a duty to ensure that schools achieve the best value for money possible. School budgets are under enough pressure without time and money being wasted, and with better research, due diligence and negotiation, more money can be focused on improving the outcomes in the classroom.
As a business owner I am extremely proud of the relationships we have formed with schools and the amazing people within them. I truly believe that the key reason we have been so successful is our approach and the values that under pin it. Hopefully our company video portrays the passion and integrity of the people here at e4education.
The Future of Technology Within Schools
Technology has changed beyond comprehension since the turn of the century and it can sometimes be a challenge for schools to keep pace. At e4education, we tackle these challenges head on and are constantly learning, adapting and advancing our platform.
We were the first school website provider to offer a true single code base platform, meaning all customers benefit from the same features and enhancements, without having to continuously pay for upgrades.
We are also incredibly proud of our feature-rich, easy to use suite of communication tools, which are helping our Schools and Trusts to improve engagement with their community.
We recognise that the role of the school website has changed over the years. A good school website is undoubtedly the most cost-effective and efficient way to showcase the achievements and uniqueness of your school, as well as acting as the logical central hub for parental engagement and community communications. In our experience, an easy-to-use and well-maintained school website should utilise all forms of modern technology.
So whether it is a pupil checking their homework assignment on a desktop computer, a governor checking the latest meeting notes on a tablet; or a parent receiving important information via e-mail or text messaging, your website should be flexible enough to provide your school and its community with all the information they require, whenever and however they decide.
